Scanning the darts forums, Reddit and Facebook groups we were amazed by the number of people looking for a good darts shop close to them. With the casual darts fans now looking to get playing darts in such high numbers we assumed that it shouldn’t be so difficult to try before you buy and pick up a good set of darts at a local shop. Join us as we highlight our maddening quest for UK Dart shops.

Our maddening quest for UK dart shops
Having compiled lists of dart shops where you can try before you buy for both Belgium and The Netherlands (see the end of this article to see both lists) we assumed that a similar list for the UK would be a piece of cake. How little we knew…allow us to take you through what turned into a frustrating attempt to finding all we neeeded to know about UK dart shops.
Caveat: We are 100% certain we have missed some/many wonderful dart shops run by passionate darts fans and players and apologise for this in advance. The reasons for this will become apparent in this article. Feel free to get in touch with us by email or on our social media posts if you own or know of a dartshop near you.
How we went about our search for UK dart shops
As with any good search we reached for our mobile phones and opened up Google expecting hundreds of results for our query “UK dart shops”. As many of you will have noticed in recent months, the search results on google were flooded with paid ads from the “big guns” of the dart world offering their services, and a bunch of Reddit threads where people asked the exact same question we had typed in.
Swiftly heading over to Bing to ask the same question we were dissapointed to find a similar lack of information being forth coming, seeing the reddit posts being replaced in the results by links to Facebook groups with people asking the same question.
For good measure we asked google maps the same question hoping to find hundreds of pins over which we could hover and note the information or click through to the website or google business information. Sadly the pins reflected that one kid in the class who hardly noticed they had chicken pox whilst we were covered in the damn itchy things. It was quickly become apparent that we were struggling and would be driven mad in our quest to scratch the shop itch just like we were all those years ago with the chicken pox.
Despite the frustration we were sure that we could provide a great list of dartshops to try before you buy with the search results, forums and social media groups providing the soothing release that chamomile lotion did back when it was still allowed.
Problems we encountered looking for a dart shop to try before you buy
With our browsers open on the search results provided and armed with a tonne of bookmarks to the reddit and facebook groups we got to work compiling our list. Hours of trawling through the excellent replies provided by helpful users on the social media groups gave us a number of results with which to top up the information gathered from the search engines.
Speaking of search engine results, a large percentage of the information provided led us to google business profiles which provided incomplete information (lack of opening hours info, no website, no contact info etc). We came across a number of websites masquerading as physical dartshops when they were online only, old websites that had been left to die out, webshops which were nothing more than a well known online retailer who had bought them up in an attempt to monopolise, or simply to websites that no longer existed or took so long to load they timed out.
Facebook groups which appeared in the Bing search provided a similarly frustrating feeling with some providing fantastic posts informing their followers of the latest darts the had in stock, but no directions or pening times. Some groups were even set to private with a number of questions needing to be answered before an admin approved or rejected membership.
Given all of these problems we have provided a list of dart shops in the UK but as per our earlier caveat we know we have missed many great vendors. Please get in touch so we can update the table and provide a more comprehensive overview.
Struggles UK dart shops face in boosting their profile
Having owned a number of websites and having run a forum (non-darts) and some facebook groups in the past we are more than aware of the problems you face when starting out. Finding suitable webhosting can be a nightmare, ensuring that the website and groups are protected from hackers and spambots seems to be a never ending battle, and one misclick can crash your website or delete the group you spend ages building up.
The vast majority of local dart shop owners don’t want the hassle of running an online store and almost certainly don’t have the floor space needed to accomodate one either. Staffing costs, unit rental, and the vast sums of money one gets quoted by web designers to build their websites are all too high and detract from the owner’s true passion, selling darts and providing darting tips and tricks to the customer who relies on them for qualified and valuable imformation.

Combined with the huge amounts of marketing budget online retailers have to ensure their number 1 spot in search results, the willingness to profile just seems out of financial reach for most. However, with customers and their preferences coming in all shapes and sizes, there is plenty of room for physical and online dartshops to co-exist, and there are a huge number of ways in which dart shops can increase their online presence (and their clients and potential clients therefore being beter informed) for a fraction of the cost many webdesign agencies would have them believe. The best thing is that most of the work can be done for the shops so that they are free to keep making the customers in the shop happy. Drop us an email to see how we can help.
